Listen, I know a coffee place that likes to say America runs on them. I hate to break it to them though, that I do not. I have a new favorite coffee y’all. As a former barista I’ve had a lot…..a lot of coffee. I’m here to tell you that this mama runs on Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee.
The folks over there were kind enough to gift me a bag of their house blend. I’m gonna be honest, 9 times out of 10 I do not enjoy house blends. I tend to go for light roasts that are a little more mellow and pack a punch.
Alas, I decided to give this a go. Loaded it up into the machine. Clicked brew. Crossed my fingers because I love Scott Patterson and I would have hated to not like his coffee.
Holy. Cow. I went for some black, even though I’m a creamer fiend because how could I review something without actually tasting it, ya know? So anyways, I go to take a sip and the smell just knocks me into coffee bliss. I had hope yet. First sip hits my lips and what do you know, I drank the whole cup. Black. Without any creamer. Usually, my coffee is a nice pale almost tan. Mind blowing.
So for the actual flavor, I’m giving this a solid 10/10. Its definitely mellow, I felt like I got a hint of a nutty flavor to it. It’s so smooth. The mouthfeel on this one is so velvety. The kick was pretty solid too! After a cup I was ready to rock around the Christmas tree, because ya know presents need wrapped. Honestly, I would drink this black. In fact, I left my peppermint mocha creamer in the fridge this morning and did just that.
It handles flavored creamers well, too. Maybe it’s just me, but some coffees just don’t taste good with flavor added. The lightness of this house blend gives way to great flavor.
On top of that it actually is great for the earth in reducing waste and actually using the coffee cherry instead of creating a bunch of waste in the streams, and it makes the coffee even healthier. I’m all for helping the planet, we try to live as waste free as possible and this just makes my heart happy. You can read all about that here!
So anyways, all that to say if you need a new coffee, check out Scotty P!
